Livy was a Roman historian and he was born in Italy in 59 BC. He moved to Rome and this is when he started writing. He wrote about the history of Rome. Many of his book were lost. In his writing he talked about the Punic Wars. We know a lot about them and Rome because of his books. In his writing he shows that Romans are good and all of their enemies are bad. He was about 80 years old when he died.
Herodotus was one of the first writers that wrote about what happened in the past. He was called the "father of history." He was born in Turkey at about 485 BC. While he was a child the Persian war was occurring. He wanted to try to explain how Athens and Sparta were able to be defeated because many people questioned this when it occurred. Herodotus would write about places he traveled and would ask people questions to help him write. He also wrote about places he has never been. Sometimes he wasn’t very accurate because people would tell him things that weren't but most of the time he would be fairly true.
Thucydides was an Athenian and he was from a rich family. He was related to some of the generals that lead the Athens against the Persians. He then became a general and lead Athens in the Peloponnesian War. He lost the war so they exiled him. He then left Athens and wrote about how and why the Spartans won. A lot of what we now know about the war is because of the book and stories Thucydides wrote. He is a very accurate writer and makes sure his facts are true.
